April through June is peak yard sale season across most of the United States. The weather cooperates, people are in spring cleaning mode, and the volume of sales is at its highest. Spring is when you'll find the most variety, the most sales happening simultaneously, and the most motivated sellers who want to clear space before summer.
July and August see slightly lower volume as vacations pull people away from hosting sales. But the sales that do happen tend to be well-stocked, and there are fewer competing shoppers on brutally hot mornings. Start as early as possible in summer — heat makes both selling and shopping miserable by 11 AM.
September and October are genuinely underrated. Kids are back in school, people are clearing space before the holidays, and motivated sellers often price aggressively to move things. Competition from other shoppers is lower than spring, and the weather is usually pleasant. Fall is when experienced shoppers often find their best deals.
Outdoor yard sales largely stop in cold-weather states through December, January, and February. Indoor garage sales happen year-round but are harder to find and less likely to be listed online. In warmer states like Utah, Nevada, and Arizona, February and March sales can be surprisingly good as people get restless and start clearing out before spring.
Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends typically see higher volume as people use the extra day to either host or shop. Check Loopd early in the week before major holiday weekends — listings tend to fill up Thursday and Friday.
Loopd shows you every sale nearby, lets you build a route, and navigates you stop to stop. Free to use.
